Oklahoma Building Inspectors Association

The purposes and objectives of OBIA are to sponsor education and training in the application of building codes to protect the public health and welfare by advancing the most modern and improved materials and methods of building construction. To broaden public awareness throughout Oklahoma regarding dangers of unsafe construction practices and applications. Further, to provide a forum for a single voice of representation on issues of mutual concern to Oklahoma licensed building inspectors, and to adopt policies and engage in other activities for the mutual benefit of association members.

The officers and board of directors voted to adopt the name “Oklahoma Building Inspectors Association” on January 4, 2006. Prior to that the organization was known as “Building and Construction Inspectors of Oklahoma” which was incorporated in the State of Oklahoma on June 4, 1975, and was chartered on October 1, 1975 as the Oklahoma Chapter of the American Society of Building and Construction Inspectors. BCIO later became a local chapter of (BOCA) Building Officials and Code Administrators, Inc. Following the consolidation of the three model codes organizations into the (ICC) International Codes Council, BCIO became a local chapter of that organization.
